Before starting R.S.U.M. I didn’t know what to expect, what God wanted for me, or who He wanted me to be. All I knew was that I wanted to serve God and show God’s love in action to anyone who needed it. R.S.U.M. put me on the path to explore different kinds of ministries; learn from the King James Bible, which is my ultimate tool and guide; and grow as a woman of God. R.S.U.M. took me outside of the classroom and into the streets where I knew I would be serving and spreading the word, upon graduation. R.S.U.M. helped me find my place in ministry and learn to be flexible, ready to grow, and sensitive to God’s voice. I thank R.S.U.M. for teaching me how to reach as many people as possible with the love of God, to have faith to believe in the impossible, and to never limit God! Unique, Class of 2007 Before going to The ROC and attending R.S.U.M., my life was all about me. All I cared about was partying and making money. Once I started attending The ROC, I began to ponder my life’s purpose. I saw that R.S.U.M. was helping to change lives and make life changers, and I wanted to be a part of that. RSUM taught me about the will of God, about soulwinning, and how to have true purpose in my life. I have more joy now than I have ever had before. Because of what I learned about soulwinning at R.S.U.M., I now lead many people to the Lord. I also help to lead the Hispanic ministries at The ROC, including preaching weekly at “La Roca,” The ROC’s Hispanic church service.
Prior to attending R.S.U.M., I lived in Washington, D.C., where I pursued my dream of a career in music. However, it started to become more and more apparent that my dream would not come to fruition. A friend of mine told me about The ROC and how R.S.U.M. changed his life, so I decided to give it a try. I started writing Christian music based on the great Biblical truths I learned at R.S.U.M. As people heard my lyrics, I was asked to join The ROC’s hip-hop group. I am now a sound engineer, a senior video editor, and an assistant production manager at The ROC. These were all things that I have always had the ambition to do but never the correct motivation. Because of God and His grace, He is allowing me to use my interests and passions to serve Him. Thank you, Jesus, for using someone like me to help change the lives of others, just like you have done for me. Bennett, Class of 2009
Before I came to The ROC, I sold drugs and was addicted to drugs. My family and friends brought me to The ROC in hopes that I would change my life and give it to Jesus. While at The ROC, I began to get involved in various ministries. Attending R.S.U.M. helped me to be a better leader. Now, I get to use the gift God gave me to glorify Him through music, which is something I’ve always loved. I am so thankful I attended R.S.U.M. It opened my eyes to what walking with God and truly serving God is all about. In addition to playing in the ROC Band, my wife and I are now the overseers of a discipleship home at The ROC, “The House of Life,” which is a home for pregnant women in desperate situations. This home offers a life-changing alternative to women contemplating abortions.
Attending RSUM was the best ten months of my life. I was able to hear the Word of God from some of the best preachers at The ROC. Each day was a learning experience from God; from Preacher Boy Class to Church History Class, every day I apply what I learned. My graduating class was a close-knit class, and all of us were able to bond while serving God. Whether we were soul winning, going on a field trip, or doing adopt-a-block, we were getting closer to the Lord. After graduating from RSUM, I served at the ROC Auto Shop for a few months, and then I was asked to manage the Love of Jesus Thrift Store. God had this planned from the beginning; I now get to use all of my worldly experience to serve the Lord full-time. Thank you, Jesus, for carrying me and not allowing me to lean on my own understanding. I took a leap of faith when choosing to attend RSUM, and I landed right in the hands of God...
